TLDEF Statement on SCOTUS Decision to Hear LGBTQ Employment Discrimination Cases

TLDEF responded to news today that the Supreme Court of the United States has agreed to hear three cases about LGBTQ employment discrimination, including aa case involving a Michigan transgender woman who was fired from her job at a funeral home because she is transgender.

TLDEF to Honor Lowenstein Sandler LLP with Pro Bono Partner of the Year Award

announced the law firm Lowenstein Sandler LLP as its Pro Bono Partner of the Year. The award will be presented at this year's Trans Advocacy Awards on Tuesday, June 11, at the Manhattan Penthouse. The Trans Advocacy Awards serve as TLDEF's signature event that raises critical awareness and support for its work to advance equality for transgender and non-binary people nationwide.

TLDEF Pro Bono Partner Reed Smith Challenges Pennsylvania's Discriminatory Name Change Law on Behalf of Three Transgender Women

Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund (TLDEF) Pro Bono partner Reed Smith today filed a court challenge to Pennsylvania's name change law. Attorneys at Reed Smith became aware of the need to bring this challenge after prior transgender clients referred by TLDEF were denied name changes under the unjust law.

More than 30 Transgender and Ally Organizations File Amicus Brief in Support of Worker Who Was Fired for Being Transgender

TLDEF today filed a "friend of the court" brief with 33 other signatories in support of Aimee Stephens in her case before the U.S. Supreme Court. In 2013, a Michigan funeral home fired Ms. Stephens from her job because she is a transgender woman.
